Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts at stardom with mainstream artists were not successful. Perry was signed to two labels before being then dropped by both labels before any recordings had been released. In 2007 however Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted only a little attention because of its humorous title track. I Kissed a Girl was a more bold ode to sexism that was that was accompanied by a slashing electronic-pop beat. This song sparked controversy, with some critics accusing it of encouraging the same-sex relationship and others asserting that the explicit sexual situation depicted in the song was intended to appeal to the men's fantasies. But the mixture of polished and titillating melody made I Kissed a Girl become a number one hit in multiple countries powering sales for her album One of the Boys (2008). The album's second single Hot N Cold also proving popular the album much of which Perry wrote herself eventually registered sales of more than three million copies within the United States.
